The Perfect Philly Getaway...

This time of year is pure perfection when it comes to East Coast roadtrips.

There's a crispness in the air, the leaves are just starting to change and school is back in session. It's also when you are dearly missing the chill vibes of summer.

Fortunately for those of us living in the Greater Philadelphia region, just under three hours from us is the pure heaven that is the Omni Bedford Springs Resort.

This was my third time at the resort-- First time was a spa weekend with college girlfriends, then a stopover during the holidays with family. This weekend was all about fun and relaxation.

My husband. and my 13-year-old son drove to Bedford (a straight shot on the PA Turnpike) on Saturday morning, arriving just in time to catch the Penn State game at the Frontier Tavern (the bloody marys are to die). After lunch at the bar, we teed off at the "Old Course," a completely restored and historic course dating back to 1895. The views are incredible and the course winds through hickory and sycamore trees, and an 80-year-old oak that is so beautiful. I cut out a little early (I'm usually good for about 12 holes), and sat by the pool before heading to the spa! The receptionist at the Springs Eternal Spa recommended the Honeysuckle Sugar Scrub, a treatment I had once in Guatemala (which was entirely different), and it was heaven. I have never been so relaxed and so silky smooth. To his total tween horror, I kept making my son feel my arms.

After spending a little too much time enjoying the "Bedford Bath Ritual" (steam, minerals, cool plunge, etc.), I raced back to the room, through the lobby filled with live music and a fun fall popcorn station, back to our room to get ready for dinner.

We capped off the day with dinner at The 1796 Room, which takes you back to, well, 1796, with low-beamed ceilings and rustic tables. The steak and salmon were perfection. We lucked out with perfect weather, so after dinner, we walked the hotel grounds, peeked in on a wedding reception, and made smores by the fire pit. An ideal Saturday night.

The next morning, we had coffee and muffins, before it was time to head back to Philly (and the real world). We already have plans to return over the holidays, when the hotel is decorated for Christmas with a gigantic tree and the coolest gingerbread house. Keep your eye out for midweek and special deals at the resort. For more information, visit www.omnihotels.com/bedford
